If you are looking for a fun yet less messy way of dyeing Easter eggs, try the new fun method of dyeing Easter eggs with rice! There are so many fun ways to dye Easter eggs nowadays, but this is by far one of our daughter’s favorites! You can create the cool speckled Easter eggs using rice, food coloring, and ziplock bags. That’s it!
Required Items for Dyeing Easter Eggs with Rice:
- Ziploc Bag
- Rice
- Food coloring
- Hard-boiled eggs
NOTE: Unlike the shaving cream dyed Easter eggs, these are completely okay to eat once dyed!
Optional Items for Dyeing Easter Eggs with Rice:
- Disposable gloves (food coloring can temporarily stain skin and most kids love playing with them)
- Apron or old t-shirt (if the kids go rouge with the food coloring, it can stain clothing)
Let’s Get Started!
Pour about a 1/4 – 1/2 a cup of rice into the Ziploc bag then add 7-10 drops of food coloring. Close the Ziplock and let your kids mix the rice and food color together. Tip: The more rice you use, the more food coloring you will need as you dye the eggs as the rice will soak up some of the dye.
Put the egg inside and let your kids toss and shake! Take out the egg and let it dry. Tip: In between eggs you may need to add additional food coloring to the rice. Mix it up and then add another egg.
Once the first color is dry, add your egg to another ziplock bag to get the multi-colored speckled look. Once you are done, clean-up is easy. Just toss the bags of colored rice, stick your eggs in the fridge, and you are done!
This fun activity has become one of our daughter’s favorite Easter-related activities. Hopefully, your family will enjoy it just as much as we have. For additional Easter activities, check out our other post under Kids Life.
